Straw Blanket
Straw blankets were for moderate to steep slopes and low-flow channels where erosion protection is required for only a short period during vegetation development. The blankets are reinforced by a light weight photodegradable net with a uniform wheat straw filler for soil erosion control and seed bed mulching. Straw blankets offer an economic advantage over excelsior blankets.

Standard Straw Blanket: This straw blanket has only one side of netting stitched on 1.5" centers with an average shear stress of 1.60 lb./ft.

High Velocity Straw Blanket: This straw blanket has two sides of netting stitched on 1.5" centers with an average shear stress of 2.25 lb./ft.

Excelsior Blanket
Excelsior blankets were developed for moderate to steep slopes and high flow channels where erosion protection is required for vegetative development and a moderate time after. The blankets are reinforced by a light weight photodegradable net with uniform wood excelsior of 80% eight-inch or longer fiber lengths for soil erosion control and seed bed mulching. Standard color is a natural brown with an option for green on most products.

Standard Excelsior Blanket: This excelsior blanket has one side of netting stitched on 3" centers with an average shear stress of 1.80 lb./ft.

Green Standard Excelsior Blanket: This excelsior Blanket has one side of netting and Aspen wood. It differs from our other excelsior blanket in that its green color, two options for size, and manufactured by a different firm.

Installation Process

	Slope Application Overlay the sides snugly together ( overlapping max. 2" ) if possible, extend 3 1/2' over the crest.
	Ditch Line Application Roll out mat with the flow. Overlap the ends by 3" in the flow direction and anchor with a common row of staples not more than1 1/2' apart. On wide ditches, overlapping of mat joints should not be in center of ditch.
	Stapling Procedure At the ends anchor with a row of staples not more that 1 1/2' apart. Staple or wooden stakes on 3' centers.

Each XCEL Temporary Erosion Control Blanket (ECB) should be installed over a properly prepared, fertilized, and seeded area.

Make sure the blanket is in contact with the soil over the entire area, and secured with staples. Normally, it is not necessary to overlap, dig check slots, anchor ditches or bury ends of the blanket when using XCEL Temporary ECB's. It may be necessary to dig check slots, anchor ditches or bury ends of the blanket on long slopes or high flow channel conditions.
